Anika Noni Rose (born on September 6, 1973) is an American actor and singer. She is best known for playing Tiana Disney's first African-American princess as seen in The Princess and the Frog (2009). Disney Legends featured her as one of them in 2011. The actress is also known for her performances in the film Lorrell in Dreamgirls which was an Academy Award winning film (2006) and as LaVerne in the Starz's Power. Her performances in the theatre are not unnoticed, including her roles as Emmie Thbodeaux and as the character in Caroline or Change, a Broadway musical Caroline or Change (2004) that earned her an award for the Tony Award Best Featured actress in an Musical. The show also received her nomination in an award for the Tony Award Best Featured actor in a production of the Broadway revival A Raisin in the Sun.
